World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to increase the gear score of an item upgrade up to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their unique stats. (For instance the perfect broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade item, and aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats like crit chance, attack damage, PvE and PvP damage. Weapons come with a flat rate bonus that increases damage per second. In addition there are many weapons with a set bonus which is activated when three or more of the same weapon is present on a unit. In some cases this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage a weapon upgrades on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon's capabilities is contingent on the quality of the weapon and its current level. For example an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.

Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. This is usually a good aspect, but it may also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.

Items of armor can also be upgraded to increase their stats. This can increase the defense base of a chest or helm while belts and gloves will increase their required strength and agility. Armor also has an option to reroll its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it can sometimes reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain upon upgrading along with the relative value of those stats. This means that an upgrade from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving 3% of attack damage. The 3% does not mean that the weapon will strike 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button within the item menu, using the arrows that circle. This will reroll the item and alter its stats however, it will not reset the weapon's level nor connect to the status of your account.

Armor

A few tweaks to your armor can make a an enormous difference in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets offer massive improvements in the resistance to curses, poisons, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to navigate difficult areas. In general, the greater defense you have for your character, the more health you can receive from each point. Therefore, it's a good idea to upgrade items your armor.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four of them, and each requires you to complete a special side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the primary side quest and have completed the corresponding fountain you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.

Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. In general, you'll need at anywhere between three Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the first upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a few friends.

You can't upgrade your armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is Best item upgrade to focus on upgrading your armor for physical strength or the power of spells. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades for the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear for the final boss battle as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.

Potions

Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to buying a brand new trinket. A player can upgrade their trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base level as the old trinket, however, it will also come with an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.

Once the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are a popular alternative to gold.

Players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually means the best-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondaries and then other items of gear they will not be replacing soon (for instance an earring or cloak). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when selecting the items to upgrade. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to a tank player, then they should upgrade their chest, helm and shoulders.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they're no longer needed, and the new trinket will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus. A re-upgrade, however, can cause damage to the trinket unless it can be salvaged with a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades but still less expensive than purchasing an entirely new trinket.
