The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i am afraid i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store.
