Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer elegant double doors that open up to a spacious fridge up top and freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out due to their distinctive features, like door-to-door dispensers and more expensive ice makers.

We sought out experts like Ladina Schopf, interior designer architect, founder, and co-founder of LS Projects, for tips on choosing the right model. They evaluated the capacity of storage, layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, the GE Profile series targets consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This refrigerator is packed with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a smart water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive, so I expected better.

This refrigerator is a good option, despite the slight blip. It has a large freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a good amount of frozen food when as compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about what you would expect from an french door fridge freezer with ice maker door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent sized freezer in the left side. But it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in each compartment to create a custom storage setup for whatever you have to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is also attractive. The LED lighting is a nice touch and the storage bins have a third shelf that can fold down so that you can store tall items. The drawers have temperature controls so you can set them to Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings to be a little rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It also alerts you when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in a handful of other GE fridges that allow you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to disperse at a time. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water remains, but it's not as effective as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also comes with a veggie compartment that helps keep vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and has dual compressors to ensure maximum preservation of food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This fridge is perfect for a small household or kitchenette that needs an attractive design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for various reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never changed by more than a fraction, this is crucial to prevent freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also did well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and maintained the temperature throughout our tests.

Bosch has a reputation for top-of-the-line appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is expensive, but it comes with great features and capabilities for the price.

While the fridge is a fantastic piece of equipment but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You might need to be creative with tall objects because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage into the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge has an ordinary French door design, and two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set crisper drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more space. There's also a full-width drawer to store food items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice things about this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, which makes it easy to move ice into the fridge to be used when it is required. The freezer also has clever design features, such as sliding drawers that can help you organize your belongings. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food items and an additional ice storage bin.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's an easy way to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, especially when away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than other refrigerators we tried. This is likely due to the greater capacity.

The doors are a different issue with this fridge. The handles that are sunken allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a difficult time closing them without slamming them. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, making it an attractive choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice if you want a French-door fridge that won't break the budget. It's a minimalist design that isn't as striking in appearance as other models but it does have enough features to make it a solid option. Its main feature is the temperature adjustable drawer that helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located above the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can put away food items that need extra attention. You can adjust the feature using an adjustable slider that is located just outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite rank among the best non plumbed french door fridge freezer reviews door fridge (recent post by Lzdsxxb) in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise measurements of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It does an excellent job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
