Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

A light double pushchair makes it easy to move around, especially for families with children of different ages. They're generally easy to fold, steer and transport up and down stairs.

The majority of the light double pushchairs we tried were side-by-side models. Tandem

While side-by-side models are more suitable for siblings with similar ages tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and offer their own perks. They can take a bigger car seat, and some have reversible seats or an extra carrycot in the middle. They are larger and are easier to get into and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than those found on single buggies. They often have larger canopy, peekaboo windows and even padding for the leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a good-value lightweight tandem. The fabric is a bit less expensive than some of our top-rated doubles. However, it looks stunning and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Although it takes some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded while it's attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-byside models. However, they can be harder to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put stress on your back.

A convertible double buggy is an additional option. It's initially an individual however, you can add adapters to convert it into a small double stroller. These can include an additional seat or carrycot in front or children can be seated side-by-side.
